Teaching Experience
NEOMED July 2011 - present
I will be working at Northeastern Ohio Medical University to collaboratively develop and teach an 8 week course on Pharmacy Ethics for the College of Pharmacy. Topics currently include Issues of Conscience, Public Health & Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Research Policy & Process, Research & Marketing, Pharmacogenomics, Shortage of Pharmaceuticals & Gray Market.

Cleveland Clinic Dept. of Civic Education May 2011 - July 2011
Volunteered as a bioethics moderator/instructor for a leadership internship for highly motivated high school juniors and seniors. Topics include stem cell research, patient access to unapproved drugs and the environment, health and sustainable healthcare. Moderators provide the support for peer leaders to create presentations on the various subjects. Also responsible for moderating discussions on the day of class.

Case Western Reserve University Aug 2010 - May 2011
School of Arts & Sciences - Worked as a graduate teaching assistant for two undergraduate bioethics classes. Graded weekly reflections and facilitated small group discussions on a broad range of subjects including the doctor-patient relationship, issues at the end of life, research ethics and reproductive ethics. I developed lesson plans, formulated presentations and taught classes on specifically on "Palliative Care & Hospice" and "Confidentiality & Duty to Warn."
School of Medicine - Was invited by professors to assist in the teaching of a Case Inquiry (IQ) Team to medical students on Ethics, DNR-CCA & DNR-CC. The session "generally involves a small, student-centered learning team in which elaborate patient cases are discussed to allow medical students to learn, retain, synthesize and integrate knowledge." Students are forced to think critically and philosophically about the patient cases before being given the actual legal specifications that would inform their future practice. Both small and large groups are used as a framework for the classes. I facilitated a discussion with a group of approximately 13 medical students.
Independent Scholarship - Conducted extensive research on ethics related to all aspects of pharmacy. Have composed papers on international ethnobiopharmacology research, material complicity associated with pharmacists' conscientious objections to dispensing emergency contraception and the ethics related to tangible and virtual pharmaceutical drug samples. Other areas of interest involve surigcal/intraoperative ethics, ethics of medical instruction, and international health research ethics.

North Coast Diving Oct 2009 - Feb 2011
Worked as an assistant coach for a diving club that coaches approximately 14 east side area high school diving teams. Students were from a variety of different skill levels and came from both public and private institutions. I functioned as a sort of mediator between the older coaches and the high school students. I coached in a different style than the more experienced coaches; the alternative way that I approached the sport greatly helped
some of the students, as different communication styles suit different people.

Classical Piano June 2003 - Aug 2006
Throughout high school, I taught classical piano to young students ranging from the ages of 9-13. This was my first teaching experience of any kind, and was based upon my own classical piano experience which began at age 5. Like ethics, teaching music can be abstract and forces both the teacher and student to think beyond the superficial reality of notes on a page.

Worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician I (CPhT I) at a mail order pharmacy. Responsible for the normal processes associated with pharmaceutical practice (i.e. filling prescriptions, filing insurance claims, helping patients).

University of Alabama May 2010 - Aug 2010
Chemical Engineering - Conducted ancillary work in organic chemical engineering in ionic liquids for the University of Alabama. Specifically, two different methodologies were used to synthesize a cyclo-propane compound, resulting in products that were of both high yield and purity.

Chemical Engineering - Synthesized terphenyl based Palladium pincer complex catalysts (industrial catalysts). Conducted column chromatography, Grignard reactions, NMR, distillations,Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry, extractions, and other typical processes related to synthesis and purification of chemical compounds.
